Tricia – The Beauty You Are

I often think about how skin of a different hues are depicted in media. Do we even notice and how do people feel about it? This portrait series explores some of those curiosities through the reflections women of color shared. This series is a piece of the capstone project of my undergraduate studies in digital communications at the University of Baltimore.

I went to him and said, ‘why do you keep staring at me?’ and he said, ‘ because you’re black.’… He said, ‘I never saw a black person in real life.’

I don’t support things that degrade the image of the black family. … Now, I’m more conscious about it. If it’s not showing a black person in some kind of respectable light, I tend not to watch it.
