Stephanie – The Beauty You Are

I often think about how skin of a different hues are depicted in media. Do we even notice and how do people feel about it? This portrait series explores some of those curiosities through the reflections women of color shared. This series is a piece of the capstone project of my undergraduate studies in digital communications at the University of Baltimore.

I went to a small liberal arts college in the middle of nowhere – Moorhead, Minnesota. … It was 15 kids in the class. It was just different. In that one moment, in that one class, it was just me [only person of color].

I think they’re [people of color in media] cast and made to play stereotypical roles. They’re cast to do specific things that are not flattering. … It’s not realistic.
